How to get your Login Token on Team Fortress 2

The Login Token (GSLT)

The Login Token, or Game Server Login Token (GSLT), is a free Steam token that identifies your Team Fortress 2 server to Valve. Without it, your server cannot properly authenticate with Steam — which prevents it from being reachable and causes a crash as soon as a player tries to connect.

Go to the Steam server management page

Sign in to your Steam account, then go to the official game server management page: https://steamcommunity.com/dev/managegameservers.

Any Steam account can generate a Login Token, even without owning the game.

Create a token for Team Fortress 2

In the "App ID" field, enter:

440

Then give your server a name (Memo), to help you identify it if you manage several, then click "Create".

Retrieve the token

Once the token is created, it appears directly on the page, in the "Login Token" column. Copy it in full and paste it into the "Login Token" field of your server, on your Team Fortress 2 server's administration page.

Best practices

  • The same Login Token can only be used by one active server at a time.
  • Avoid sharing your Login Token publicly.
  • You can revoke it or generate a new one at any time from the same Steam page, without serious consequences.
